It's the most wonderful time of the year

There are some things that are inextricably linked to Christmas. Mariah Carey being defrosted again somewhere in November. The discussion about whether the Christmas tree is allowed inside before or after Sinterklaas. And of course All You Need Is Love on Christmas Eve. Because let’s be honest: Christmas without Robert ten Brink is a bit like a Christmas dinner without dessert.

At Van der Valk Hotel Amersfoort-A1 we have a modest Christmas ambition. We would actually quite like it if, when you first start thinking about Christmas, you don’t just think about Mariah, Robert and the gourmet grill, but also a little bit about us.

And since we already had the first Christmas tree up in September, we think we’ve earned at least some right to speak by now.

Christmas stress? That usually starts even before the first Christmas wreath.

Count to 10 for a moment

It’s the same story every year. As soon as December comes into view, the negotiations begin.

Are we going to your family this year or to mine? Are we doing Christmas Day at our place and Boxing Day at yours? Who is in charge of the starter? And who is bringing the dessert?

That last one is always an interesting issue, by the way. Because while one person turns up with a tub of yogurt and some fresh fruit, another appears with a dessert table that would make the contestants of The Great British Bake Off spontaneously nervous.

And then we haven’t even mentioned the number of chairs at the table, the napkins that suddenly have to be folded in an artistic way, and the eternal question of whether the oven is big enough for both the main course and the potatoes.

So cozy, those holidays.
